Church of England
Working with the Church's national Shrinking the Footprint Campaign to:
“sMeasure has enabled us to gain a greater understanding of energy use in our many and varied buildings and has been very useful in helping us calculate our carbon footprint.” David Shreeve, Environment Advisor for Church of England
- Quantify the carbon emissions of the Church estate
- Develop a standard approach to collect, interpret and analyse energy data
- Engage and support churches and schools in energy saving action
- Enable the church nationally, and at the Diocese level, to identify high-energy consuming buildings to then target as priorities for saving measure

Ebico Ltd
Ebico provides assistance to their customers on better understanding their energy use and preventing energy waste via a customised version of iMeasure. Ebico Ltd is a not-for-profit gas and electricity supplier that aims to offer 'better, fairer deal for domestic energy to British households.
Institute for Sustainability
The Institute is using sMeasure to assist with the evaluation of an energy efficiency project, which is testing smart-meter technology in over 50 homes. The 30-minute energy data captured by the smart-meters is being imported into sMeasure to run weather analysis. With sMeasure the project manager can know what homes in the trial are likely to consume annually with less than a year worth of data. The European Regional Development Fund funds the project.
Julie's Bicycle
For over 4 years arts organisations across the UK have been using sMeasure to understand and target energy savings. Pilio has partnered with Julie’s Bicycle, a non-profit company, committed to supporting the creative industries embed environmental sustainability into all aspects of their business. sMeasure is used by over 100 arts organisations including the Ambassadors Theatre Group, Royal Albert Hall, Theatres Trust and Creative Carbon Scotland. The data captured via sMeasure was used to help update the CIBSE benchmark for entertain halls – this analysis was published in CIBSE’s peer reviewed journal Building Services Engineering and Research Technology.
"sMeasure has given us an incredible platform through which we can support creative industries in energy management. In our sMeasure community we have more than 100 theatres and this is for the first time giving us the ability to track and benchmark energy use as a community of businesses." Alison Tickell, Director

RSPB
We reviewed RSPB’s 30-minute electricity energy data for the head office and prepared 2 building reviews for an office and a reserve (which included recommendations and best practise), plus used sMeasure software for 20 RSPB green site buildings to learn more about their building’s energy consumption.
The head office electricity review included:
“The analysis of the AMR data for our headquarters at our HQ, the Lodge at Sandy, Bedfordshire by sMeasure has given us food for thought. It is particularly useful in identifying aspects that we can investigate further by benchmarking the data with other similar offices.” Sarah Alsbury, Environmental Management System Project Manager
The head office electricity review included:
- Annual Electricity Profile
- Typical and selected weekly electricity profile
- Comparison with standard energy benchmark
- Building efficiency with weather analysis
- Baseload and control review to identify wastage

World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)
WAGGGs - as an organisation working with young people worldwide can be a leader in climate change action. This leadership can be demonstrated through practicing good building energy management. WAGGGSs have used sMeasure software since 2010 and commissioned a building review on their head office to ascertain their annual carbon footprint, pinpoint where heating energy efficiency can be improved for energy savings and where non-heating energy savings can be made. The review also covered the costs & implications of a carbon reduction target and comparability with good practice standards. Assistance was provided for management to correlate activity on dates when gas consumption was more than expected, enabling effective review of anomalies in readings.
Recommendations made:
“Working in an old office building can be challenging. With the help of sMeasure last year and their online facilities, as Office Manager, I have streamlined my paper records for monitoring, have been able to quantify the results, generated and supported proposal plans to reduce our energy consumption and improve the building’s functionality.” Lisa Christie, Office Manager
Recommendations made:
- Examine energy consumption over holiday periods and the cost / consumption implications
- Monitor heating settings weekly during shoulder seasons to identify waste patterns
- Compare performance to other offices
- Assess weather-related performance
- Investigate baseload electricity consumption

YMCA - London SW Region
The London SW region of YMCA has been using sMeasure to manage their cluster of 13 buildings. The buildings review and software provided insight into areas such as the effects of school holidays on consumption; the activity related to predicted performance; and assessed the effects of weather to confirm that space-heating demand will fluctuate during shoulder seasons. Recommendations around what energy efficiency gains can be realised by considering improving heating control settings. The following top line questions were answered:
“sMeasure has enabled us to pull together in a snapshot our energy performances into one clear, easy to use and easy to read format. It has given us the basis by which we can now work much more proactively and intelligently to reduce our energy usage and therefore save money and reduce our carbon footprint.” Richard James, Chief Executive Officer
- The annual carbon footprint of the leisure pool
- Details of the effect of a carbon reduction target
- Specifics of heating the pool, consumption and average gas use p/wk for heating water
- Electricity usage as a % of usage versus the % of emissions it produce
